Tactile Nanoscale Models

Working with the Center for Biology Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the NSEC has produced tactile models of nanoscale images taken from Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopes (AFM). Through a process developed by Mohammed Farhoud of the Bio New Media Center of the Center for Biology Education 2D SEM and AFM images can be transformed into 3D data. The images can then be printed using rapid prototyping printing to produce tactile images which allow people to feel surfaces of nanoscale materials.
